Make an Embroidered Yarmulka

Transform a basic yarmulka into a work of art in a matter of minutes using a sewing machine, pretty thread and your imagination!

Using size 11 Schmetz sewing machine needles, a Brother CS6000i sewing machine, Coats & Clark thread in white and blue, my tweenage daughter turned a boring run of the bin black yarmulka into a delightful end of the year present for one of her favorite teachers. Although the design looks fancy, both rows of "embroidery" are straight stitching using an "heirloom" stitch on her machine.

Easy, peasy ... and a great present.
